PM promises ‘comprehensive’ blood compensation
Prime Minister Johnson has announced plans for a ‘comprehensive’ compensation scheme for victims of the contaminated blood scandal. The scandal, which saw thousands of people infected with HIV and hepatitis C from contaminated blood products in the 1970s and 80s, has been described as one of the worst treatment disasters in the history of the NHS.
The new scheme will offer financial compensation to those affected, as well as access to specialist healthcare services. The Prime Minister has promised that the scheme will be fair and transparent, providing support to all those who have suffered as a result of the scandal.
Johnson said: “We owe it to the victims of this scandal to provide them with the support they need and deserve. This new compensation scheme will ensure that they can access the care and financial assistance they need to move forward with their lives.”
The government has also announced plans to launch a public inquiry into the contaminated blood scandal, to ensure that lessons are learned and that such a tragedy can never happen again.
